Description
An ornate, original antique document dated 1879 for the Business of Retail Liquor Dealer issued by the US Internal Revenue..."Severe Penalties are imposed for neglect or refusal to place and keep this stamp conspicuously in your establishment or place of business"! Please see photos!
This document has beautiful graphics on a wonderful shade of paper. Engraved on the top center is the Roman God, Hermes, with the medical symbol (snake & staff) in hand, leaning on a large woven wicker, glass bottle, sitting next to wooden kegs, a moonshine still, along with a funnel lying on the ground! It is watermarked, "USIR", in fine print on the side is: "Engraved & Printed at the Bureau, Engraving & Printing", "$25 Dollars Per Year" near the bottom, and "Stamp For Special Tax", near the top. The front measures 8" by 7", the coupons for payment are folded behind (so it's a bit larger..around 14"). It was signed by A. K. Osborn, which was crossed out, and has another signature above, H. M. Kutchin. There are three hole punches, one pin hole, a corner bend, otherwise, condition is excellent...great in person!
This is a wonderful piece of history and would be great to display in a wine cellar, pharmacy, bar, liquor store, distillery or office! I am happy to answer any questions, please feel free to email, thanks!
Pleased to combine shipping with other Prohibition Prescriptions, Liquor Licenses, Opium Forms & Pharmacy Labels. As always, many thanks to my regular customers for your continued patronage!
