LOT F-10
Up for auction is a Great Antique Collectible!
For your consideration is an early 1900's Key-Wind COLUMBIA GRAPHOPHONE PHONOGRAPH CYLINDER PLAYER, Model AQ, and Manufactured by COLUMBIA COMPANY, New York, NY. U.S.A.
The base is made of cast iron and measures11-3/4" in length and 5-1/2" wide at the widest end. The front side of the base has gold-colored detailing and a partial label still attached that reads; GRAPHOPHONE and PATENTED (the rest of the label is missing). Also marked on the underside of the base are the numbers1559.
Attached to the base is the metal Key-wind box , also stamped with the number of 42815 and controls the connected metal Cylinder component which is also stamped on the outer end with; COLUMBIA PHONOGRAPH COMPANY – NEW YORK, N.Y., U.S.A – SOLE SALES AGENT FOR "AMERICAN GRAPHOPHONE CO. – Paris – Berlin – Chicago – St. Louis – Philadelphia – Washington – Baltimore – San Francisco.
The black colored Brass Cone Horn which is connected to the Reproducer component are detachable, with the cone horn measuring 9-1/2" long and 4" wide at the opening and has a gold-colored painted-on diameter ring design. The total length of the player including horn is 12-1/2" and stands 8-1/2" tall.
Also included are 3 THOMAS EDISON Cylinder Records (with only 2 having cardboard holders) and feature the songs; "Officer of the Day and The Hurricane Two-Steps Band" (PAT'D. 12/1895), "The Jolly Coppersmith March" (PAT'D. July 29, '02), "Waialae Toots Paka's Hawaiians" (PAT'D 1915).
This wonderful Antique Graphophone is in Good overall structural condition, but shows some metal exposure discoloration and is also in need of a little expertise to get all the components fully functional again as I discovered when tested that; the 2 governor weights needed a slight nudge to start them spinning which DID then turn the spindle-like turning gear which then moved the Reproducer across the cylinder record, however the metal cylinder holder did not turn, so there was no sound coming from the record.
