Willelm Blaeu (1571-1638) was a Dutch cartographer.
Joan Blaeu (1596-1673) was a Dutch cartographer and engraver. He was the son of cartographer Willem Blaeu. Joan and his brother Cornelius took over the studio after their father had died in 1638. Joan became the official cartographer of the Dutch East India Company.
Description
This is a very decorative and old-coloured copper engraving map by Blaeu. The map shows the Strait of Magellan. The Strait of Magellan is a navigable route immediately south of mainland Chile, South America and north of Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego. The map is richly decorated with beautiful cartouches, sailing ships and a coat of arms.

Willelm Blaeu (1571-1638) war ein niederländischer Kartograph.
Joan Blaeu (1596-1673) war ein niederländischer Kartograph und Kupferstecher. Joan Blaeu wurde als Sohn Willem Blaeus geboren und kam um 1603 nach Amsterdam, wo sein Vater ein auf die Herstellung von Erdgloben und Karten spezialisiertes Unternehmen gründete. Joan Blaeu setzte den Betrieb nach dem Tod seines Vaters fort. Nach der Vernichtung der Werkstatt im Amsterdamer Brand von 1672 und dem Tode Joan Blaeus im darauf folgenden Jahr wurde der von Willem Blaeu gegründete Verlag 1698 schließlich aufgelöst.
Beschreibung
Sie bieten auf eine sehr dekorative, altkolorierte Kupferstich Karte bei Blaeu. Diese Karte zeigt die Magellanstraße. Die Magellanstraße ist eine Meerenge mit zahllosen Inseln und Seitenkanälen zwischen dem südamerikanischen Festland (Chile, Argentinien) und der Insel Feuerland (Tierra del Fuego). Die Karte ist reich verziert mit schönen Kartuschen, Segelschiffen und einem Wappen.
