For your consideration we have here a c1900 Indian ivory carving of the Hindu deity 'Kali'. This excellent and rarely found Indian ivory carving was produced in India around the early 1900s and was most likely sold at one of the better shops or bazaars in the populated areas that were visited by the more well to do. Kali actually means black and is a goddess associated with death and destruction, but today she is considered the goddess of time and change and not to be confused with Kali the demon beast. The ivory is well grained and has taken on a wonderful creamy tone and deep patinized finish. She wears a necklace of heads along with bands of adornment around her arms, wrists and ankles as well as her waist area showing rows of mens arms/hands. She also is showing her enlongated tongue protruding out of her mouth. The quality is very good as with most of the earlier ivories from this period and is a nice solid piece which is mounted on a flat turned wooden stand. Condition is great with no breaks, chips, repairs or restorations, but there are several small missing items from two of the four hands and something appears to have been on the back near her head. Even with those few faults the carving is just super and one really does not notice the missing items unless pointed out. Height 7-1/4" x Width 2-1/2" x Depth 1-3/4" and the ivory height alone is 6-1/2". This is part of a collection of Indian ivories that I am offering this week with (3) others available. All the Indian carvings are quite impressive and rarely seen offered as they are not the common ones. So buy with confidence and please remember there is not much more time to add good ivories to your collection here on ebay.

NOTE: Over the past 23 years I have been buying, selling and collecting Asian art and other high quality antiques and collectables. My main emphasis has been working with dealers, designers as well as a core group of serious collectors. About five years ago I decided to start offering some great items from the "Old China Trade" as well as good Japanese 18thc & 19thc antiques on ebay for auction. Not every item I offer will be from these two groups however I will only offer high quality pieces that will continually rise in value through the years to come while giving much enjoyment and satisfaction that other investments cannot provide. Good antiques definately deserve a place in ones financial portfolio. ***Please contact me with any questions, all questions will be answered within 24 hours. ***Ebay is soon going to only allow online payments so contact me if you need another method of payment. Insurance is optional but highly reccomended, totals will be figured at auctions end.
