For auction we have here an amazingly carved Japanese ivory okimono of a skeleton carrying a group of masks and skulls over his shoulder that are attatched to a type of log in one hand while the other hand carries a single well done mask. This skeleton was produced most likely in Japan during the first half of the 1900s. This is by far the most elaborately carved and largest skeleton that I have come accross. The artist did an incredible job of working the bone structure with the joints, spine, rib cage and facial features. I would like to bring your attention to the masks and skulls because I have not seen really any better when such things are offered by themselves in netsukes. The hat resembles a lotus leaf with a well done cricket on the top. Things like the color, polish and patina are about as good as you will see and after examining the ivory it appears to be produced from hippo, at least that is what the base looks to be because hippo ivory has very tight and subtle graining. There is a signature on the underneath as well. Condition is superb with no problems what so ever having only a fine short age crack on the hat near the cricket. This skeleton is also the largest one I have seen having a Height of 9" x Width 2-1/2" x Depth 2-1/2". I would confidently say that you would be hard pressed to find an equal in this size and quality workmanship. This ivory skeleton would make a great conversation piece in your collection as well as a great investment in a piece like this.

*****In accordance with ebay's rules & regulations regarding the purchase of ivory, any items made from such in whole or part must be shipped within the United States. If you have any questions regarding the purchase or shipping of ivory items to your location, please email me as I will be happy to inform and assit you any way I can.

NOTE: Over the past 23 years I have been buying, selling and collecting Asian art and other high quality antiques and collectables. My main emphasis has been working with dealers, designers as well as a core group of serious collectors. About five years ago I decided to start offering some great items from the "Old China Trade" as well as good Japanese 18thc & 19thc antiques on ebay for auction. Not every item I offer will be from these two groups however I will only offer high quality pieces that will continually rise in value through the years to come while giving much enjoyment and satisfaction that other investments cannot provide. Good antiques definately deserve a place in ones financial portfolio. ***Please contact me with any questions, all questions will be answered within 24 hours. ***Ebay is soon going to only allow online payments so contact me if you need another method of payment. Insurance is optional but highly reccomended, totals will be figured at auctions end.
