SUPERB 19C INDIAN FIGURAL IVORY CARVING W FINE PATINA

     For your consideration we have here a superb 19c Indian ivory carving with fabulous color and patina. This high quality Indian ivory figure was produced in India around the c1890s or so by a very talented carver and was probably purchased locally in a city or town from a smaller high quality shop. This particular carving cannot be compared to the majority of Indian ivory figures that one normally sees here on ebay that are more commercially carved and sit upon the shaped wooden plinths, which don't get me wrong as many of those are quite nice. This is a earlier one with much more finished and polished work done which resemble some of the finer ivory carvings of Dieppe, France during the same era. I cannot begin to come close in describing the color and super fine polished finish of the patina, but if you are the winner and when you unpack this piece you will see what I am speaking about. The figure is standing upon a great cobra that wraps around his entire body while holding part of the end in his hands. The draping of the bottom garment, necklace and headdress show great workmanship and the graining is apparent in many places even on his face. The condition is perfect with no chips, losses, repairs or restorations only having a few tight age lines that are going no further and are always expected in these earlier ivories. Height 7-1/4" x Width 2" x Depth 2". A good size solid ivory carving that would be one that surley would stand out in any good ivory collection. A real stunning piece so bid accordingly.
