For auction we have here a huge c1930 Chinese carved ivory scholar grouping ontop a wonderful custom carved and inaid wire hardwood stand. This superb carving was produced in China around the c1930s for the market. The workmanship is performed with great skill depicting three scholars in conversation beneath an impressive pine tree surrounded by well done flower groups, rockery, grasses all in the first 9.5". Then above that is another 8" of ivory carving of clouds with possibly a religious pagoda or small temple with mountains in the background, trees and stairs with cobblestones leading to the temple. The pronounced graining is seen all through out the carving even on the tea cups, tea pot and the rocky table that two of the scholars are sitting at. The ivory has taken on a nice deep patinized color with a bit of deeper toning on the standing scholar's shoulder and a bit on the seated scholar's outside shoulder. These carvings of this size and width are always produced in sections because the tusks are not that wide at the solid areas. This is a good heavy piece due to all the solid ivory used, even the single standing scholar could actually have been a good sized piece by itself. Condition is excellent with no losses, chips, repairs or restorations that I can tell, only showing the three areas where the sections were affixed together having a small bit of shrinkage that occured over the last 75 years or so which allowed for a thin gap which is hard to see with all the movement going on, otherwise just an excellent piece. Height 17-1/2" x Width 11-1/2" x Depth 6". Ivory alone Height 15" x Width 10" x Depth 4". A wonderful and surely impressive ivory carving that only the Chinese carvers could accomplish so well. So bid to win as you will not be dissapointed.

NOTE: Over the past 23 years I have been buying, selling and collecting Asian art and other high quality antiques and collectables. My main emphasis has been working with dealers, designers as well as a core group of serious collectors. About five years ago I decided to start offering some great items from the "Old China Trade" as well as good Japanese 18thc & 19thc antiques on ebay for auction. Not every item I offer will be from these two groups however I will only offer high quality pieces that will continually rise in value through the years to come while giving much enjoyment and satisfaction that other investments cannot provide. Good antiques definately deserve a place in ones financial portfolio. ***Please contact me with any questions, all questions will be answered within 24 hours. ***Ebay is soon going to only allow online payments so contact me if you need another method of payment. Insurance is optional but highly reccomended, totals will be figured at auctions end.
