A classic example of 20's French Art Deco and one of the more desirable Max Le Verrier designs. This lamp was named
"Pluie" and stands 17" high and 6" wide at the base. Solid bronze, it is very heavy at 15 pounds (and so the shipping costs
I've quoted are Parcel Post to save some money). The hex base is black marble.
Signed "Le Verrier" on the side of the base (hard to see in the picture but I tried to get a close-up).
There are a few minor rubs on the patina - but nothing serious. It looks like both sockets (candlabra base) and the cord have been replaced -
probably so it could be used in the US. Although the shade is not original it is antique and it is roughly the same size/shape as the
factory ones and looks great on the lamp. The finial is correct and original. Because it lacks the original shade the reserve on this lamp is a fraction
of its retail value. Please read on to link with a picture of the lamp with its original shade.
To see a picture of the original shade (which was also in the shape of an umbrella) go to the following URL
to see what it looked like and also see this lamp for sale at retail in a New York Gallery:
