Antique Cased English Needlework / Sewing Set

Sterling Thimble * Hallmarked 1898

This nice little English needlework set is in a velvet case with the original fitted velvet interior. The tools include a mother of pearl handled stiletto, crochet hook, corkscrew and file. There are also small steel scissors, a steel bodkin, a steel needle case, a packet of needles and a sterling silver thimble.

The thimble has an unusual all over roundel design. It's stamped with the English sterling hallmarks for Birmingham 1898 and the maker's mark for James Allen. It's about an American size 7. It is in round but has been used and has 5 needle holes.

The mother of pearl is all in excellent condition with no chips or damage and the tools are rust free. The little scissors measure 3 5/8" long and have pretty faceted shanks. They have sharp intact points and cut well to the tips. The velvet has some wear to the nap around the edges, but the box is in overall good condition. It measures 6 1/4" by 3 1/2" and closes securely with a flip down brass latch.

I stand behind everything that I offer and guarantee that it is exactly as presented.
