Description:
We have for sale one of the rarest Indian Fur Trade Knives we have ever seen or sold. This particular knife looks to have been awarded a medal in London. We have shown a very similar trade knife above from an Indian collectible book but as you can see it is not stamped as most of these star knives were never stamped. Many people just call this knife the "Texas Star" or the "St. Louis Star". The knife is 12 and 1/2 inches long with a 7 and 3/4 inch clipped blade. It is solid and in excellent condition with only minor staining and pitting and it looks to have a tiny piece of pewter missing on the bottom of the bolster but hard to see. Of course the most interesting thing about this knife are the stampings which are. "Marcade Fabrica Resistrada? or Registrada? K&B, Price Medal London 1861". The bottom line is we have sold many Indian trade knives on ebay and elsewhere but have never seen or sold a knife that was stamped like this one is. The handle on the knife is made out of a beautiful hard wood that looks like coco bola? or rosewood? but we are no experts on woods. The handle has a pewter star and pewter acorn on both sides with a pewter bolster. We sold one star knife many years ago but the blade was thinner and smaller and it was stamped "Goodell" on the blade. The only information we could find on this company was a small article written in 1856 that stated. Quote "Apr 15, 1856 - He invented four patents on knife handles, which he sold to the DH Goodell Co." Unquote. These star knives were traded to the Native Americans for furs and such in the 19th century and we believe this knife probably belongs in a Museum somewhere. The knife would look great with your beaded or tacked Indian sheath or would make a one of a kind Christmas gift. Take a close look at our photo's above and decide for yourself. Also please see all our other trade knives, cowboy and military artifacts we are selling on Ebay at this time. We cannot sell this knife overseas or to anyone under the age of 18 per Ebays rules and regulations on knives. We have a very low starting price with no reserve and a three day inspection with money back guarantee if you are not satisfied for any reason so you have nothing to lose. Check our feedback and bid with confidence............
