For your consideration we have here for auction a very large c1890 Chinese deep carved ivory dragon table or powder box. This superb box was produced in China around c1890 for the export market. Not only is this box done in a large size at 4-1/4" diameter but it is carved over every square inch of the surface showing great swirling dragons amoungst a cloud background dualling over the flaming pearl of wisdom which actually is also the central reserve for monogramming which has been left blank. The sides of this box contains (4) more full bodied dragons with black inset eyes also amoungst a cloud background. The ivory has taken on a splendid color tone and patina showing off very pronounced graining to the bottom and on the inside walls with a signature in black ink to the underneath. The condition is excellent and has retained its original shape as many of these types of containers in ivory suffered from the climate changes here in the states causing dryness and warping if the box was not cared for properly, but the only mentionable flaw with this particular box is that there is a fine age crack on the very top outside edge which is not very noticeable and going no further. Other than that the box is wonderful. Diameter 4-1/4" x Height 2" A great ivory carved box in superior condition for the collector. Bid all you can as the winner will not be disappointed!
