Offered here for auction is a superb 19c Chinese or Dieppe carved ivory page turner. This page turner was produced in either Canton, China or Dieppe, France some time around the c1870s. I am saying that this page turner can be from either country simply because I know and have seen the same subject matter of the floral carving on similar objects and when done at a high level of workmanship it is difficult to pin point either location. The very deep carving on the handle is of the highest quality work showing many different types of flowers in various stages of bloom as well as fresh buds, leaves & stems. Directly below this great work is a basket type weave that separates the second wonderfully carved floral section which is amoungst fine horizontal lines being very similar in design to the one on the handle but are much smaller and finer done flowers. The balance of the blade shows superb graining and color. Condition is excellent having only a fine age separation at the very tip about a 1" long and other than that there are no chips, losses, repairs or restorations. Length 12" x Width 1-1/2". This page turner without a doubt some of the finest floral work in ivory I have seen or owned so bid to win this one as you will not be disappointed.
