This was a Japanese WW2 mounted kanbun shinto blade
I bought this sword here on ebay 3 years ago, it was found under a freezer in a house that belonged to a WW2 vet.
With it was a higher class Gunto koshirae and the Tsuka has a mon, the family of that mon could possibly have had a Kunisuke so far my research.
Different experts has said different things regarding this sword
1. Its a gimei.. I cant realy explain it but its shortend just under the mei and it looks to good, and by the way no one just "finds" a Kunisuke in a Gunto koshirae
This was said by a real expert ( However I know of a real kotetsu that was found in a similuar way 20 years ago)
2. This sword is a strong candidate to be verified as a real Nidai Kunisuke
This was said by another expert after showing him photos
Anyway here you have the data of the sword
Mei: Kawachi no kami kunisuke
Nakago with diagonal file marks in the original nakago area and horizontal in the area created when it was shortened, these file marks are more visuable hence probably done at a later time.
3 mekugi-ana, Suriage
Nagasa 65cm
Hamon: Starts with a sughua and then its Choji Gunome and it ends with a sughua in the kissaki, now according to the books this is how nidai kunisuke did it in an atempt to make it hard to copy him.
Hada: Itame very thight
All the people who have seen this sword agree on the following: This is a Kanbun shinto sword
The sword comes with a nice Edo koshirae and also the orginal gunto tsuka and saya
Google kawachi no kami kunisuke and compare this sword to the photos you find. I have added some photos of the oshigata from the Shinto bengai oshigata book. More photos will be uploaded during this week and more photos can be emailed on request.
The sword has no fatal flaws but there are some small nicks
