Hickok 800A mutual conductance tube tester in excellent condition. Includes copies of the owners manual, European tube manual and obsolete tube manual. Overall, extremely clean - the case is about the best I have seen, Control panel is very nice with just a few minor blemishes. Inside has no corrosion, no white residue (galvanic action). Meter is fine with direct readout in mhos, roll chart is smooth, all tube sockets are tight, has the "top-hat" knobs which are easier to handle that the normal types. All controls are positive and clean. I have used this very little in the many years I have owned it - it has been in clean, dry storage in San Diego. Compared to my Hickok 539C and 752A, it is about half the size, yet it can test as many tube types. Readings are accurate and consistant, no need for calibration. This is a late design which will also test nuvistors and compactrons. Simple change is possible from 110 to 220 volts. This has one useful change from the original: The 81 fuse bulb has been replaced by a standard fuse holder. Vintage brass base 81 bulbs are expensive and hard to find, the current production 81 bulbs are poor quality. If you a purist, this can easily be put back to original and I will include a bulb holder and bulb if requested. I will also include instructions on the simple modification to replace the 83 mercury vapor tube with solid state parts. Those $20 plug in units you see have 50 cents worth of parts inside. Tube amps will be made forever, there are a few tube testers even being made, but none of them will ever have the capability to test thousands of different tubes like this one. Hickok was the undisputed leader in tube testers - buy a good one. No cost for professional packing, Add $40 for UPS shipment.See my other auctions.
