Hi.
Enlarge the pictures if you would, look at the GREAT colors!
If enough light is present it brings out the earth-tone browns.
The 1st photo is taken under normal or a bit dim lighting, it brings out the dark charcoal to blacks.
HISTORY:
I had 3 matching cup/saucers.
Since it was an odd number, I sold them one-by-one.
To give you at least some comparison to go by:
the 3 cup/saucers sets sold for:
$34.50 BIN option.
$34.50 BIN option.
I had No BIN option on the third set, it got $40.01.
Something that has worked VERY well in the past--was well as works now:
I was taught 45 years ago when pricing a teapot set by its components rhther than its total price combined:
The teapot is worth approx. 4 times as much as a matching cup/saucer,
OR 4 cups/saucers are worth the same as the pot.
The creamer and sugar holder is eqivalent to 2 cups/saucers.
If this formnula is used in any of the Replacement prices, it comes out nearly identical every time.
IF I were to use that formula, this set would be worth the same as 6 cups/saucers, $275.
Whether that is high or not,
it is Not the reserve.
The reserve is half that figure.
DESCRIPTION:
All in excellent condition, spectacular detailing, the moriage is AS heavy thick and textured as any item ever made.
NO CHIPS CRACKS OR LOSS OF PAINT.
It is A MIRACLE NONE OF THE MORIAGE HAS DRIED, CRACKED AND FALLEN OFF.
THE COLORS ARE STRIKING.
A RARE LUSTER FINISH ON THE INSIDE, MORE TYPICAL OF LATER ITEMS.
This luster is in fact a fore-runner of later-made items, something copied for decades later.
The handles have a black "slip" design, white scrollwork on the edges.
It is the COLORS that are the best part.
Charcoal greys to blacks, typical of older items.
In fact the earliest Nippon pieces, ones made Before 1891 and unmarked have these deep charcoal shades.
MAKER:
Torii, Nippon Japan circa 1916, Nippon mark #113.
MATTE finish; SO MUCH nicer than gloss glazed finishes, what I idealistically think of as REAL Nippon.
design: ONE OF THE MOST TERRIFIC DESIGNS I'VE EVER SEEN.
SIZES:
Pot is
HUGE 9" from handle to spout, 7.5" high, 4" deep or wide.
Creamer is 5" high, sugar holder 6" from handle to handle.
These are footed!
Sitting on four "ballfeet" another Excelllent feature.
The bottoms or bases are flared widly and Wildly outwards.
