Age: Modern reproduction. Approximately 30-35 years old.
Condition: Overall very good second-hand condition. See item description for details.
Size: Full size and wearable. 1:1 scale.

Item Description: For sale is this full size and wearable reproduction set of very well made and overall historically accurate Japanese samurai armour which is in overall very good condition for a second-hand item of its age, which appears to be about 30-35 years old based on my experience buying and selling such sets along with some newspapers found with the armour that were used for packing. The armour is in very good condition considering its age, with only a few flaws, which includes the following: A half/fist size torn section of cloth on the back side of one of the kote armoured sleeves. One broken leather finger fastening leather loop. The large decorative agemaki-kan swivel ring on the back of the dou has come off and needs to be re-attached. The small ring portion of the agemaki-no-kan on the back of the helmet has been losts but can very easily be replaced. Some of the tassel ends on the sode fastening cords have come off but are present and can be stitched on. One small section of original stitching along part of the waist belt on the haidate has come open and needs to be re-stitched. The set being quite old has faded and soiled with age as can be noted in the above images. The armour is otherwise very sound though it naturally has some minor cosmetic markings such as numerous surface scratches and buff marks that could only be expected for an item that is this old. I stand 5' 11" and weight 182 pounds and can wear this armour without discomfort, which is one reason I used it, as most reproduction armours, unless made to order tend to fit very small and are really only good for display as such. The set includes everything seen in the above images including the kabuto ( helmet ), the menpo ( facial armour ), both sode ( shoulder guards), two kote ( armoured sleeves ), the dou ( main body armour ), the haidate ( thigh armour ), two suneate ( shin guards ), dou-jime ( belt ), and the armour storage box, which stands 62 cm high, measures 44 cm across. The storage case too shows some cosmetic wear but is otherwise very sound and solid still. This set of armour was again assembled by hand and almost entirely of traditional materials, making use of wood, metal, leather, cloth, and various types of lacing to produce the final product. Overall this a very decent older reproduction suit of armour for a price you would be extremely hard pressed to beat anywhere, even over here in Japan. An armour display stand can be included with this set for an additional $35.00. Also note, the footwear seen and yes, even the small piece of blue cloth behind the menpo in the above images are items we use in display and thus not included. We've gone the extra mile to make sure you know what you are getting and with no surprises attached. We will probably get less bids for telling the truth, but our reputation is worth more to us than an easy bit of ill-gotten gain. I believe the numerous good points can more than speak for themselves. This week I noted that a Japan based dealer is listing two very expensive armour sets which are claimed to be all original matched Edo period gusoku sets. This is once again and as is typical of this particular seller not true. Both of these expensive armours are composite sets and one heavily restored. To learn the facts about these sets first I recommend you see some actual high quality armour sets offered at even lower prices by visit TORABA.COM and make a comparison. I'm sure the difference between proclaimed and real quality will be immediately evident. Then I recommend you register to the free ARMOUR COLLECTORS FORUM on Toraba.Com and join the discussion groups today where items such as those described above are presently being openly discussed and vetted by experienced and knowledgeable collectors without a business agendas! I have said it before and I will say it again. Just because an armour is coming from Japan does not make the dealer knowledgeable and or credible. Why do people want to gamble there hard earned money on such flimsy credentials. If you don't know the product yourself, don't believe the other person does. Your THROWING MONEY AWAY! That said, it is your money so do as you see fit, but remember...you have BEEN WARNED!
