Tribal art bone mask, from the Lega tribe living in eastern DR Congo. Lega statuettes, called "Maginga", are rarely taller than 38 cm(15 inches),and were carved out of wood and bone. Employed during initiation ceremonies, they have a mnemonic function insofar as they assisted in the telling of ancestor stories or in the depiction of proverbs. MATERIAL: Animal bone. It measures 7.4"( 18,8 cm) in height. It shows wear and tear and a nice patina, a big crack line was repaired. This item is located in Burundi and it will be shipped to you directly from there via registered airmail.
