We offer: A New Map of Nova Scotia and Cape Breton Island with the adjacent parts of New England
and Canada...by THOMAS JEFFERYS. London: Sayer and Bennett, 1775.
Original copperplate map with original hand-coloring in outline from Jefferys' AMERICAN ATLAS (1776).
SIZE: Sheet size: 28 x 21 inches CONDITION: Very good or better. Some offsetting (shadow from facing page) to map, light edge-wear and loss, especially to right side, short mended tear to lower left margin, not going into plate; the two sides must have been separated at some point and re-attached and not as precisely aligned as could be (see picture below)-- worth mentioning but not at all noticeable.
NOTES:Jefferys' atlas was published in 1776 and contained 23 maps on 30 sheets; this is map no. 14 and has original hand-color in outline. The atlas is considered the best of its time and at present there are only two complete copies for sale online: one from Arader for $350,000 and one from Heald for $175,000.
Individual maps sell in the hundreds to the many-thousands. We will start this map at $99.00 without reserve and will let the buyers determine its value. Our estimate? $2000-3000. This map shows the east coast of America from Boston Harbor all the way up to parts of Labrador and
Cape St. George. It is the greatest 18th century map of Nova Scotia and Cape Breton!
