Petrus Bertius (1565 -1629) was a Flemish cartographer. Besides his geographical work, Bertius also published numerous scientific writings on mathematics, history and theology. In 1618 he moved to Paris where he became geographer and historiographer of Louis XIII of France.
Description
This is an original, decoratively coloured copper engraved map by Bertius.
The present map shows Spitsbergen, a Norwegian island and the largest island in the Svalbard archipelago, located in the Arctic Ocean. The map is decorated with a nice cartouche and beautiful illsutrations.

Neben seinem geographischen Werk verfasste Bertius auch zahlreiche wissenschaftliche Schriften über mathematische, historische und theologische Themen. 1618 zog er nach Paris und wurde Geograph und Historiograph König Ludwigs XIII. von Frankreich.
Beschreibung
Dies ist eine originale, sehr schön kolorierte Kupferstich Karte von Petrus Bertius.
Die Karte zeigt Spitzbergen, eine zu Norwegen gehörende Insel des Svalbard-Archipels zwischen dem Nordatlantik und dem Arktischen Ozean. Die Karte ist verziert mit einer hübschen Kartusche und schönen Illustrationen.
