Old, Marston California pottery bulldog. This dog is about 2" high x 5 1/2" long. Impressed on the bottom with "Marston Calif"- it is faint & impossible for me photograph. Back of his collar says "Mack"- likely a reference to the Mack truck bulldog mascot. I believe this is a pepper shaker (has 1 hole under the collar), but displays beautifully as a figurine. Excellent condition, no chips or cracks. I could find only a few light crazing lines with a magnifying glass. I haven't been able to find any information on the Marston company. I don't think they were in business very long, it's rare to see Marson products for sale. Most of the California potteries went out of business in the 1940's & 1950's as less expensive Japan imports became common. I've had this guy in my collection for MANY years, love his face!!
