Majestic "Studio" Model 59
With Aluminum Grill 1933
Here's another radio from my collection, and one of my favorites without a doubt. As you can see...it's gorgeous. Majestic / Grunow made a number of chrome grilled sets in the 1930's. This model and the 161 being the rarest and hardest to find. I've tried to capture the original look when I re-finished this set and with this link (an original set), you'll see I came pretty close. http://radioatticarchives.com/radio.php?radio=1713
The Cabinet... An art deco two-toned beauty! Dark mahogany & rich black lacquer make this set an eye grabber. I really can't describe how exquisite and sharp this radio looks. People come over and they are just in awe. Most radio collectors like my Zeniths but general visitors find this one the masterpiece of the living room. I know I sound a bit insistent but it is in fact an eye opener. Ok, as you can see...many coats of lacquer (15-20) polished to a 'glass like gloss", and a high polished aluminum grill. The 2 escutcheons are actually chrome. They are in great shape with very small, hard to see pits. Believe me, you will not be disappointed with the condition of the escutcheons. I just wanted to mention it to be thorough. The dial scale is original but the speaker cloth is a reproduction. The back is also reproduction and identical to the tattered one I took off of the set.
The Chassis... A rust free chassis that has had the electronics completely gone through by Jerry Simpson of Jerry's Vintage Radios. When Jerry restores the electronics, he goes through everything. He is the most reputable tech in So. Ca. when it comes to vintage radio. You can listen to this set for a long time to come and not just for short play times either. It has been restored to listen to for hours of enjoyment. I have a Zenith chairside that Jerry restored for me in around 85' and it plays great. You must turn these on once a month or so to keep the caps fresh, but believe me...these are players not just demos! The paper label as you can see in the photo is a bit tattered...but it's there.
That's about it I think. Below you will find a link to my youtube page where you can hear this beauty play. It is a bit dark at first but then lightens up for a better look at the cabinet. The wrinkle look in the finish (video) is a reflection of the dining room table. The table is a rough surfaced tile. The finish is smooth. Here's the link:

Please feel free to email me with any Questions. I will ship this radio for $40 anywhere in the US using fedex ground with full insurance. I double box all sets and they always arrive safe and secure. If shipping cost less, I'll return the difference. Thank you for looking.
Added comment: Please do not ask me to end the auction early. The last time I listed this radio an ebayer offered to buy it and then I never heard from him. I do have this radio for sale locally so there is a chance it sells before auction end.
