Superb, original and antique, circa 1820-1840 bone handle naval dirk or dagger with its original leather sheath. It is either British or American in origin. This dirk weighs 1.6 ounces (45 grams) and measures 8 3/8" long overall. The steel blade is 4 7/8" long x 9/16" wide x 4.9mm thick, the handle is 3 3/8" long x 11/16" wide x 1/4" thick, and the guard is 1 3/4" x 1/2". The leather sheath weighs 6 grams and measures 4 3/8" long x 11/16" wide x 5/16" thick. There is no maker's mark on this dirk. It is in fair to good condition with some oxidation and scratches and the bone handle has is lacking a piece, see the photos. It is offered on auction with No Reserve Price.
