A good late 18th century Gregorian brass reflecting telescope on a folding tripod base.
With original screw dust cap. Tripod attached by 2 butterfly wing nuts and with screw rod focusing. Both mirrors are present and look to be in reasonable condition although I have not dismantled it. Un-named and with no case.
In unrestored and untouched condition and showing signs of it's original bright lacquering both to telescope and tripod. The focusing screw is somewhat bent but works fine. This could be straightened.
The end cover of the eye piece is lacking and the eye piece thread is loose and this has been packed with a piece of ribbon and is perfectly stable. The pivot to the ornate bracket has a slight knock but would straighten.
Overall length 18.1/4in, height of tripod to top of telescope 13in. Diameter of body tube 2.7/8in
There is an almost identical telescope by Nairne, London in a Christies South Kensington Catalogue,of 29/5/97 ,lot 124.
