This lovely pre-ban ivory netsuke was purchased in Japan and brought back by Aunt Jo.  It was carved between 1900-1930, according to the appraiser and was part of a large collection of Japanese items that I inherited from my Aunt.  The signature is affixed in mother-of-pearl and bears the chop of the carver as well as a master carver, which makes it unique.  Look at the detail on the faces, ears and feet!  Both have ruby red eyes (could be a gem, could be glass).  The carver captured the forward movement of mother and child beautifully, and you truly get the sense that these bunnies are traveling fast.  The baby is hanging on to its mother by its front paws, with back feet flying out behind.  The underside of the netsuke shows highly detailed feet with pads and digits represented to perfection.  The ears are exquisite, showing the soft folds, and their faces have very clear noses, whiskers and tails.  Overall length is 2.5” and it is .5” at the widest point.  This piece has a superb patina; the hatch marks that denote genuine ivory are clearly visible.  Every aspect of rabbits in motion is represented in this fabulous carving.

PLEASE READ THIS PART BEFORE YOU BID:

I am downsizing, so this is a true auction without returns unless I have grossly misrepresented an item.   I include photos and written details and I am happy to send more pictures or answer any questions prior to the end of the auction.   I cannot be responsible for buyer's remorse; I'm sure you understand.  Payment must be received within 3 days after the auction has ended.  PayPal is pretty much all we are allowed to accept, according to new Ebay rules.  Contact me if that is a problem.  Please remember that Ebay fines us if less than "5 stars" are checked off on the feedback page.  If all is as promised, please indicate your pleasure by checking the five-star ratings.

I may use UPS or USPS depending on how fragile the item is.  I mail items out within 2 days of the sale.  UPS will guarantee a delivery date, but the United States Post Office does not, unless the most expensive means is selected.  In an effort to save money, I will choose the best delivery system.  I will notify you that the item has been shipped, and include tracking numbers if I have them.  I do not make money on shipping.  In fact, I often pitch in on the shipping fee, because actual cost can be more than I quoted.  Of course, I combine shipping if you have purchased multiple items from me.  Please wait until all your auctions are complete, and contact me for a combined shipping charge.

PLEASE NOTE:  I have been an ebayer for over 5 years.  I have turned around over 1000 items as both buyer and seller with 100% positive feedback.   I truly understand most situations, for I have had my own share.  With that in mind, won’t you please email any questions or concerns before you report a problem to ebay.   Chances are, good communication is all that is needed to rectify a problem.

ABOUT ME: I come from a long line of globetrotting ancestors, and I have carried on the tradition, traveling around the world twice.  My ancestors and relatives have lived for extended periods in exotic areas, including the Far East, Middle East, Africa and Europe.  They were scholars, archeologists, doctors and cultural attachés.   The collector’s gene has been hardwired into all of us.  The items I list are from my family's collections.  You will find some unusual clothing, Americana, books and antiques from around the world.  Many things I personally bought over the last 60 years.  I will list things as they come out of the boxes, so there is quite a mix.  Please take a look, you might be surprised!

Thanks for looking, and come back often.

I will be listing lots of interesting pieces over the next few weeks!
