Description: Antique 1880's Victorian hanging hall pull down oil / kerosene lamp with a beautiful cranberry red ribbed shade. Included is the original antique oil font and brass font clamp, a solid brass zero size burner, a wick, and a chimney. It is quite rare to find one of these hall lamps with its original font clamp (see photos 16, 17, 18). The clamp was designed to keep the oil font, burner, and chimney tight, level and centered through the top of the shade. If the chimney is allowed to tilt and contact the shade or crown when lit, the transfer of heat will crack the glass shade.
The shade is of exceptional quality. The ribbed pattern runs up through the top fitter and actual gold was used in it's manufacture. Both characteristics are the mark of a fine shade. The gold can be seen around the fitters and ribs using a flash (see photo # 9 and the last 2 photos).
The ceiling canopy has steel wheels for durability and a ring to hang a smoke bell. The lamp was never electrified so no holes have been drilled through any of the brass components.
The lamp measures approx. 24" from the top of the ceiling hook to the bottom of the crown. The shade is about 8" tall by 8" at the widest point. The lamp portion is about 12" from the top of the crown to the bottom of the finial.
The entire lamp is in flawless condition without any dents or stress cracks on the brass or chips, cracks, flea bites to the shade.
