A little while ago I purchased at auction a group of antique lace items. I don’t know much about lace but was captivated by the beauty and intricacy of the pieces. I hope you enjoy looking and bidding on them. As with all my auctions please ask questions before you bid.
This skirt from a wedding dress is the final item I will be selling from the collection. I am not going to be much help with the type of lace in the skirt. I don't know if it is machine made or hand made. It looks like tambour net lace but not exactly. I am hoping someone will email me with the type and age of this lace. Irregardless of names this is a wonderful lace skirt. When it was being modeled I had a couple of running stitches to draw the top to a close and tied the satin ribbon around it to cover the raw edge. My model wears between a 4 & 6 size dress. I have what is left of the top part of the gown but it is just a sleeveless piece with no collar and rough edges. I will include it with the skirt. The waist measures around 38" flat. In the front from the waist to hem is about 43". In the back from the waist to the bottom of the train measures 60". There is a 14" opening in the back at the waist. The lace has wonderful floral medallions with inserts along the bottom for added fullness. I rinsed the skirt out to see what condition the lace was in. I can see no stains. It is an off white/ivory color and would probably be white with a more professional cleaning. There are a couple of very small places were the lace has separated at the seam, an easy fix. I also saw one small dime size area in bottom where some threads have broken. I can't find any moth holes or damage to the netting. This is such a large piece it would be easy to miss something small but I would rate the condition very good. There is an inside lining of some gauze type material. It reminds me of pantyhose material. It is not in good condition and is very fragile. I have taken a lot of pictures so you can see how beautiful this is.
