This is an original 2 seater bench or sometimes called a settee.
It has a stunning inlay of different woods and yes...mother of pearl (MOP) in a fantastic urn shape design with some outer scrollwork which I believe are the 'arms' of the urn. It is intricate and very beautiful, an expression of days gone by that captures the true workmanship of furniture that was asthetically pleasing to the eye and comfortable to use. There are individual pieces of wood inlaid along with 5 individual mother of peal accents, 3 circles and 2 upside down comma's.
There is a curvature to the arms and back and even to the legs. Please look at the pictures carefully and ask any and all questions, as I am here to help you every step of the way.
The fabric to the best of my knowledge is original and in fantastic condition, I didnt dare try to reupholster it since it looked so great as is. It is in of taupy tan color background with shades of pink, burgandy, and shades of green as well. The spindle back is tight and starts and ends thin while it thickens in towards the middle as seen in pics. It is in fantastic condition and the inlay work in the center back is something you would never, NEVER see in the cookie cutter stuff they pump out today.
There was a similar item like this listed on ebay but it was very, very formal looking were as this particular piece can be implimented in many more settings..plus the other one was listed over 500 dollars. Yikes!!
Look at the side picture and you will see a definite curvature to the back rest so that two people can comfortable sit in this loveseat, cause isnt that what this really is? A sweet loveseat for 2.
It has, to the best of my knowledge, the original springs in the seat and canvas webbing.
I honestly dont know what kind of wood it is but if I had to guess I would say mahogany. This piece lends itself to Victorian style, but with the urn it can also be leaning towards a Federal/colonial style although it is more delicate in style than I normally would see in a Federal piece.
Yes, it is sturdy enough to use. I do have one issue with it as it has a slight wobble to it, although Im not sure if that is simply how it is since it does have high dining chair height legs. It can be corrected easily enough by adding a screw of some kind beneath or cutting a piece of wood to fit within the bottom under the covering ...but I will leave that to you as I had absolutely no problem sitting in it and using it as is. It has graced my bedroom for the last 2 years but I never planned on keeping it, I just thought it was so pretty it was hard to give it up.
Imagine placing it on the one side of a dining table for an interesting and alternative seating arrangement. What a fantastic idea.
Or at the end of your bed.
Maybe in a corner of your living room for a private spot for tete-a-tetes.
This would even work fabulously in an entry. Why use a run of the mill bench when you can do it in style. You can even use it as a phone bench.
I am easy to work with and will allow the winner to find a shipping company with plenty of time, I dont like putting short inconvenient time limits on pick ups so I want you to rest easy if this is something you simply must have...and you must simply have this!!
Measurements:

height to top of arm rest/back: approx. 30 inches
weight: approx 30 lbs.
Shipping:Please do not be scared by the local pickup only. I will work with the winning buyer so that you will have time to find a shipper. I adjusted the listing for shipping purposes, but I cannot be held liable if the quote is different than actual cost. I found it difficult to get a quote from freightquote.com so I would double check the info. The way freightquote works is based on size of packaging as this item is too large for UPS. So going by a larger size they have it listed as a weight of over 150 lbs., which of course is incorrect.
Another option is Craters & Freighters, which I have used before for personal use and they are fantastic.
I only ask that you bid responsibly and pay for within 10 days. Buyer is responsible for all shipping costs and insurance. There are no returns for this, as it is an antique you cannot expect it to look like it came out of a box. True antique lovers understand that sometimes flaws in a piece are what makes it unique and desirable.
I cannot find any significant flaws in this except for what I stated above.
Please check back with me from time to time as I will have tons of stuff, from clothing to furniture to jewelry. I would not sell anything I wouldnt buy for myself.
I do accept Paypal and personal checks. Payment is due in a timely manner. Personal checks must clear before items go bye-bye. Bounced checks will incur a fee (usually whatever my bank charges to my account will be charged back to you.) and I may have to give you a wet willy!!
If you have any questions, please contact me.
On Dec-03-08 at 10:21:23 PST, seller added the following information:Buyer is responsible to find a shipping company. Even though I made that clear in the listing I wanted to make sure that that was understood. The freightquote is just for estimates only, unless you can get a straight answer from those folks. Any questions, please contact me. Thanks!!
