This is a superb
VINTAGE MODEL
POND YACHT
In my estimation it dates from around the early 20th Century, circa 1900, but please make up your own mind about this.
The yacht measures approx 27 inches ( 690mm) long and 31 inches ( 790mm)tall.
It has a gaff rig, a carved, painted wooden hull, with a lead balasted keel, and varnished wooden decks with brass deck and rigging fittings.
The mast and spar are made of wood and the sails are cotton, and free from major damage and repairs, but are a little frail and stained with age .
As can be seen from the photos the paint is in pretty good order, with only a few minor scuffs here and there.
The model is fitted with a wooden rudder which can be set to steer to one side or the other.
The three vertical lines on the keel are the brass wires which hold the lead ballast in place. These are beneath the paintwork, and so I presume that they are original to the yacht, and not a later "repair".
I have not attempted to clean the model, and it hace a nice "vintage feel" to it, but the brassware could easily be polished up to a mirror finish if required, a choice I leave up to you.
This is a great vintage model pond yacht, in nice original condition.
It would make a fine display piece or be suitable to sail, and would be a great addition to any collection.
