ANTIQUE "1899" CENTURY ELECTRIC MOTOR
THIS IS A 1899 CENTURY A.C.ELECTRIC MOTOR. IT WORKS GREAT AND WHEN IT FIRST STARTS ROTATING IT KICKS INTO A SECOND GEAR AND PICKS UP A LOT OF RPM'S AND GETS REAL QUIET. WHEN THIS HAPPENS YOU CAN SEE SOMETHING MECHANICAL HAPPENING INSIDE THE MOTOR AND IT SEEMS AS THOUGH THE WHOLE ARMATURE JUMPS FORWARD AND TWO OF THE FOUR BRUSHES BECOME DISENGAGED AND THE MOTOR RUNS ON TWO OF THEM. THERE IS PLENTY OF LIFE LEFT IN THE BRUSHES AS YOU CAN SEE FROM THE PICS. THERE IS ALSO AN ADJUSTMENT ON THE SIDE OF THE CASE THE SLIDES THE BRUSH HOUSING LEFT OR RIGHT. THE BRUSHES ARE HOUSED IN AN INTRICATE BRASS MECHANISM THAT MOVES TO ADJUST TO THE JUMP THAT THIS MOTOR MAKES WHEN IT GETS TO A CERTAIN R.P.M. IT SEEMS LIKE IT KICKS INTO ANOTHER GEAR OR SOMETHING. THIS IS THE CONDITION I FOUND THIS MOTOR IN AND IT WORKS GREAT. IT HAS SPRING LOADED OILING FLAPS TO KEEP THIS MOTOR LUBED UP. I DONT KNOW MUCH ABOUT THESE THINGS SO I TOOK GOOD PICTURES OF THE INFORMATION TAG ON THE MOTOR CASE. GOOD LUCK.
