This auction is for a very lovely ORIGINAL Civil War era 2 piece dress. Gorgeous fabric - plaid silk taffeta in the most wonderful shades of lilac,purple,tan and brown / the accenting fabric trim is 1.5" wide coordinating silk purple,tan and charcoal grey plaid. I must admit that my photos with the flash just cannot do this stunning dress justice, it is much nicer than my photos. Matching purple fringe that is two different lengths. 11/12 purple small silk cord buttons,piped neckline and bodice seams. Appears to be completely hand sewn. Faux cape Bodice has two stays on each side,one in the center of each panel and one under the arm. Front closure with hooks and eyes. Pagoda sleeves are layered with fringe tim. Small pocket on the peplum of the bodice and a side pocket on the skirt. Overall Bodice is lined with polished cotton - the peplum is lined in creme silk (it is fraying from the seams only in the front). The skirt has very tight cartridge pleats in the back that have been reinforced with black thread, the front is flat and would accomodate a larger hoop. Lined with brown polished cotton that is in very very good condition. The bodice has some pit staining. I consider this gorgeous dress and fabulous piece of mid 20th century history to be in very good condition. There is few areas that have some light marks and because of the colors they tend to blend fairly well. Fabric is in very sound strong condition. There is only a very few very tiny holes that I would presume are silk holes. Measurements are taken laying flat; back panel of bodice is 15" underarm to underarm, front panels are 10" center of buttonhole to underarm, top of neckline at the first buttonhole to hem is 21". Skirt from top of waistband to hem is 43", waist is 28". This fit my mannequin quite well so I will give you its measurements; bust is 32",mid shoulder to waist is 14" and waist is 23" (the skirt was big on the mannequin and I had to pin it). Overall I find this dress to be in fabulous condition. It is a perfect example of the Civil War era., my only regret is that I do not have the hoop neccessary to give the full effect of this wonderful dress. You will not be disappointed.
