NO RESERVE* Chinese wooden statue of Taoist Deity Lei Gong the "Thunder God", circa 19th century. Ordered by the heavens to punish earthly mortals guilty of secret crimes and evil spirits who have used their knowledge of Taoism to harm human beings. He carries a drum and mallet to produce thunder and a chisel to punish evildoers. This unique statue is finely carved of a dark wood with a nice old patina. Lei Gong's right arm is raised and his left arm lowered near his body, both making fists which would have held a mallet and chisel. His body is of a man wearing armor and a belt with a dragon buckle, his face has a large beak with glass eyes, removable wings on his back, and feet shaped as talons clutching two drums over a stylized cloud base.
Size: Hieght (62.4 cm) Wing Span (24 cm)
Some restoration has been done to right arm and both legs. Missing hammer and chisel. There are some fine natural age cracks throughout the statue and a nice old patina.
