Original heavily gilt decorated full red morocco. With the original illustrations by John Tenniel
Number 612 of 1500 copies, this being one of only about 500 copies with the signature of Alice Hargreaves, ne Liddell, who was the author's real life inspiration for his fictional Alice. The signature appears on an otherwise blank leaf before the title page.
Also signed on the colophon leaf by the book designer & typographer Frederick Warde.
Long acknowledged as the "original Alice", Alice Hargeaves consistently refused to sign any copy of the work. Financial concerns in her old age and the charming persuasive skills of George Macy, publisher of the Limited Editions Club, led to her signing approximately 500 sheets for inclusion in the present edition.
DIMENSIONS: Octavo
CONDITION: Very fine, in a worn and discolored slipcase. Small, discrete collectors' bookplate on the first pastedown.
