This is an original engraved map, in Very Good condition,
and retaining a strong impression. Suitable for framing.
Sheet measures approximately 9.75 inches x 15.5 inches (24.5 cm x 39.5 cm).
Major James Rennell (1742-1830), is known as the "Father of Indian Geography", and "the Father of Oceanography" for his work charting ocean currents in the Indian and Ocean and around Africa. He performed important studies on the geography of northern Africa, evident in his introductions to the travel narratives of Mungo Park and Hornemann.
This is an original map from a multi-volume scientific journal titled
"Allgemeine Geographische Ephemeriden", which issued fifty
volumes from 1798-1816 and which encompassed critical contemporary
topics of geography and astronomy.
