CHARLES + RAY EAMES
Set of 4 sideshells in rare Fire Engine Red
Herman Miller
USA, 1950s | 1960s

By the early 1960s, as fiberglass molding shifted from Zenith Plastics to Cincinatti Millicron, Herman Miller developed a wide spectrum of resin colors that broadened the applications for the Eames fiberglass chair. This coupled with the rise of the Pop movement, launched the design into iconic status. This is a great opportunity at a set of 4 sideshells in one of the most desirable and rare colors produced during this time, Fire Engine Red. Not to be confused with the more common "Salmon/Coral" pinkish/orange-ish red from the 50's which was a standard production color, the resin of these shells are of a rich and bright shade of pure red. All shells signed with both Herman Miller and Cincinatti Millicron logo, and the "Toronto Medallion" foil label, affixed only to shells destined for Canadian export. A very nice addition for your vintage Eames fiberglass collection. No reserve.

Before bidding, please read the full condition report, shipping, and payment terms provided at the end of this listing.

A portion of the proceeds of this sale will be donated to support cancer research and emotional support programs for those living with the disease. This is one of 115 items to be offered this week, all for a great cause. All lisings will end Dec. 8th. To learn more, see our "ABOUT" page.

Help make cancer history. Check our eBay store for this American Apparel Eames Rocker T, sold in support of cancer research. Some GREAT items are coming this week, see our "About" page to learn more about this sale.

Condition report*:

Scattered areas of superficial scuffs and scratches to surfaces, some areas of roughness to edges, areas of embedded dirt concentrated to the seating surface, all consistent with age and use. One shell has some deeper scratches to the surface, (presumably from rivets from someone's jeans?). 2 shockmounts have been replaced. Displays impressively. Overall very good condition.

*Items offered for sale are vintage and pre-owned (unless otherwise indicated). Because of the vintage nature of our items, varying levels of wear from age and use is expected and accepted. Clients are responsible for satisfying themselves concerning condition, and are welcome to ask additional specific questions about the item, request additional photos, or request an appointment for inspection; prior to bidding. Visual inspection is welcome and encouraged (by appointment please). While all effort is given to describe this and all property to the best of our ability, this should still be strictly regarded as AN OPINION ONLY, with no warranty given nor implied against error or omission. This and all property is sold as-found, as-is, final sale.

Shipping:

Previously we had teamed up with the UPS Store for packing and arranging shipping. Many potential bidders have indicated they found the UPS Store's service fees and packing charges to be too expensive, discouraging them from bidding. So this year, we have decided to undertake the packing and shipping of all the items ourselves, in-house.

Your patience is appreciated, as we are just a 2-person team. Packing and organizing worldwide shipping for all 115 items in this sale will take some time, particularly large furniture that requires wood crating and special freight coordination. Wood crates will still be built by a third-party woodcrafter, but we will be packing and handling the crates ourselves.

Pick-up is welcome and appreciated. Clients wishing to arrange their own shipping are also welcome and appreciated.

A) Concerning shipping estimates during the auction:

Shipping estimates provided during the auction are estimates only (i.e. "ballpark" figures). The actual packed weight and dimensions are not known until the item is packed.

For International clients, we normally ship by CanadaPost. We will ship by UPS or FedEx if requested.

C) Concerning medium to large furniture, or fragile items requiring wood crating:

For Canada and the US, we can arrange for either "door-to-door" or "door-to-depot" depending on the carrier. The freight shippers we use are Fed-Ex Freight and Yellow Transport.
