Here for sale is a WWII sword signed by the smith KaneMasa
THIS SMITH ALSO SIGNED THE NAME TSUNEYOSHI, SEE THE SCANS FOR MORE DETAILS.
Murata Tsuneyoshi / Kanemasa is the originator of the Muratato, and Japan's first modern infantry arm the Murata Model 1880 - 1mm single shot rifle. He applied the mei Tsuneyoshi on swords made at the Tokyo Artillery Arsenal, and later signed Kanemasa at the Akabane Zoheisho (arms factory). Tsuneyoshi / Kanemasa passed away in 1921.Details:Scabbard: The plain wooden scabbard is in a leather cover, which is in very good condition.
Hand Guard: The hand guard is golden in colour and shows flowers. It is in excellent condition.
Handle: The handle is in very good condition, the wrap is not fraying, the sting ray skin has large nodes, but the puh button mechanism on the pommel seems to be a bit damaged. The gold ornaments under the wrapping are pristine.
Blade: The blade not in perfect condition as it has some light pitting all over and it seems that someone has etched a temperline onto it. I guarantee it is a genuine Japanese WW2 sword so I don't know why one of the previous owners would etch a temperline onto it. Also, the tip it slightly damaged but this is hard to capture on camera.
There is a Showa arsenal stamp above the signature.
Side 1:
Kanemasa 兼正
Side 2:
Showa Ni Ju Nen San Gatsu (The third month of the year 1945) It has come to my attention that this sword may not have been made by the first Kanemasa since he passed away in 1921 and this sword's signature says 1945. It might have been made by his son, but I am only guessing here.
