From what we can determine, this is a prewar Sparton Cloisonne catalin. Apparently one of the later 500 series sets. We have tried to show all of the problem areas in the photos. A short rundown would be:
Crack across bottom with a small wedge shaped piece missing,warped area above the rectifier and output tubes,chipped area on the top corner adjacent to the dial area,shallow dent on the top edge,partially broken top face mounting lug,roughly repaired speaker cone, missing knobs and back.Grille cloth appears to have been replaced. Also the rectifier has been replaced with a bad 35Z5GT (in lieu of the specified 40Z5GT). Dial light bulb is bad.
Temporarily replaced the rectifier with a 45Z5Gt, connected a good long wire antenna, and brought it up on a variac. Typical bad filter cap buzz, no station reception.
No smoke was released during this test.
