1937 RCA LARGE TOMBSTONE RADIO MODEL 8-T ORIGINAL FINISH, VERY NICE.
Up for bids is a large 1937 RCA wood tombstone style radio model 8-T. Introduced to the public in June 1936, the RCA 8-T is a 3 band, eight tube radio offering the AM broadcast band (530-1800 kc) and the Medium and Short Wave bands (1,800-22,000 kc). It also uses a tuning eye tube to assist in fine tuning. This radio is an excellent example of the quality workmanship that went into the cabinets made by Victor and the quality of the overall product labeled RCA Victor but better know as just RCA. The finish is original with no loose veneer and the entire set shows very little wear with only a couple of small chips of veneer missing at the bottom of the set, light marks on the top of the cabinet and two barely noticable pin size holes on the right side of the cabinet as the result of a previous owner installing and then removing most of an antenna system as only the two screws and backing remain(see pictures). The lacquer is slightly worn on one side more than the other, probably due to sunlight but as you look at the pictures you will see it is quite minor. Some frontal pictures show some glare at the bottom of the cabinet. The side views give a better representation of the beauty of the burled walnut veneer used on this set. The cabinet finish, grille cloth, line cord and knobs are all original. The chassis is clean and the only repair I believe may have been made is to the volume control. The set powers up very slowly and with a short antenna receives lots of stations on the AM broadcast band but there is no reception on the Medium or Short Wave bands. I installed a new RCA eye tube but it does not function as it should in the circuit as the chassis definitely needs the "once over" from a qualified technician before the set is placed into normal service. I guarantee that once that is done you will have a bright green selective eye tube. This is a great looking radio that will enhance any decor. Check out all the pictures and judge for yourself! Dimensions of the cabinet are: 21 7/8 inches tall, 15 5/16 inches wide & 8 3/4 inches deep. This is a heavy set and was built to last! Also included in the auction is the original 12 page RCA factory publication with technical information, schematic and service data for the 8T and 3 other 1937 RCA radio models that include all specifications, alignment procedures, etc. Winning bidder pays via PAYPAL ONLY.
