This is another beautiful offering,An Original and GenuineMatching Set of Three Large Antique English Victorian Period Island Legs or Corbels, in Rococo Revival Richly-Carved Mahogany, Dating to c.1880..!They make a magnificent trio, see 6 pics above and 10 below. Of solid mahogany, i.e. NOT veneered, each measures 28 5/8" high by 5 1/4" by 4 3/4". The carving is superb, and is executed in the Rococo Revival style so fashionable in the late Victorian period. Poor quality imitations are available from VanDykes priced at $300-$350 each - yep, that's each, and they are in nasty modern force-grown maple, not dense, first-growth mahogany, as mine are. Further, the VanDykes legs are unfinished, where mine have 130 years of patina and richness of color. Vandykes do not offer mahogany, only cherry, maple, alder and red oak, as mahogany is far too rare and expensive nowadays, and in many countries is now an endangered species of tree. I have priced these three Victorian Honduran mahogany legs at the cost of just 1 1/2 nasty, modern, unfinished, soft maple island legs - I know which I prefer..! These pieces are very heavy and solid, but I have included the cost of shipping in the 'Buy It Now' price - VanDykes would charge you another $45 on top! One side of one leg has been 'flushed', i.e. the raised center of the carved scroll has been made flat, presumably to go against a wall. Whether you want to use these as kitchen island legs, corbels or shelf- or bench-supports, they would do the job admirably.

'The Yorkshireman Antiques & Collectibles' always has the esoteric and unusual English items we're renowned for. The one thing we DON'T have is reproduction. EVERYTHING we sell is original and genuine, as anyone who has ever bought from us knows very well. I am English, and my wife and I go to England regularly and buy EVERY item ourselves. We do NOT buy pre-loaded containers. Every item we offer has been found by us, haggled-over and bought by us, carried, wrapped and packed in a container by us and then shipped to the US by us. We control the quality of what we buy and we know the source of EVERY item we sell. Our particular interests lie in Arts and Crafts Mission items and Art Nouveau, though we have everything imaginable, from c.1600 to the 1930s.
N.B. Please be aware that ALL the items we sell are at least vintage and often truly antique. Vintage and antique items HAVE flaws, e.g. scratches, marks and wear and tear. We try to describe our items accurately, detailing the flaws we consider worthy of separate mention, but our opinion of condition remains subjective. We do not mislead and include all the information we have regarding an item's condition within the auction listing. Unfortunately, we are not experts, in anything. We are knowledgeable in certain areas, but we are not authorities in any field. Remember, one man's tarnish is another man's patina..! If an item is 80/90/100 years old, it is NOT new and will not LOOK new - but isn't that part of an antique's charm and value..?
