This is my last one.
This auction is for a most wonderful antique 19th century silver bullion metal thread flowered applique embroidered on a red velvet. ground. The underside is a cotton muslin-type fabric with cotton threads. The flower motif is very dense with tight silver metal coils; its center with woven coils having lots of texture. The petals are different in that the rows of threads have the appearance of being a silk satin cording, when in fact they appear to be fine silver metal threads very tightly wrapped. This is a wonderful piece and in very good condition; the silver patination is great, however, inherent with age, there are slight tarnishing at the very bottom rounded portions (thin coils around edges); this is still minor and does not detract). This has been salvaged from a child's vest that was ornately embellished with silver metallic fringe and trims, however, the vest was moth-eaten and beyond repair. I am not certain as to what origin it is, but I do not believe that it is American. The silver patination has the appearance of a white silver and is not dull, but, as mentioned earlier, there is some slight surface dirt down center of petals. If one wishes perfection, please do no bid. This measures approximately 8 3/4" in length from top of stem to bottom tip of leaf; the upper leaf with 1/4" metal sequins is about 2" across in length; center flower is about 2 1/4" x 2"; It is about 2 3/6" at widest point across at bottom portion of flower measured between two stems on either side. There are areas at tips of flower petals where the cording needs to be put back in place; this is minor. Please see photos and look at them very closely. There is minor suface dirt inherent with age in the silver, and is to be expected with something this old. Therefore, this is being offered as is. The last photo shows the underside.
