This auction is for a vintage sterling silver cake or sandwich tray made by Dominick & Haff. I am unsure of the pattern name but it has a reticulated border interspersed with what looks like embossed sunflowers. The sides of the tray/bowl are also raised in a pattern. The tray is 9 1/2" in diameter and 1" tall. It is hallmarked on the back with Dominick & Haff's makers mark, Sterling, 3850 9 1/2, Galt & Bro. 78089. Galt was likely the retailer for this item. It is made of fairly heavy gauge silver and weighs 7.03 troy ounces. Monogram is R??.
Condition: When I first brought this item home, it was very tarnished but it cleaned up nicely. There are some condition issues though. Aside from several small pinhead sized dings, and some small creases, there is one hole at the corner of one of the raised areas inside the bowl (an a smaller one starting just below it) and this can be seen in picture 3. Also, besides the regular or normal use scratches, there are some longer, deeper ones on the bottom inside right where the monogram is (see picture 4). It looks like someone cut something up probably using a knife. The scratches are not too deep and again, when this tray is polished up, they are hardly noticeable. Finally, there is a bend in the rim and the tray is not perfectly round (see picture 5).
