Here is a fine old lantern made by Handlan. It is a “The Handlan” model and is marked on the dome top. The rim is embossed “Union Pacific”. The frame is solid and shows well. No rust-through or holes. The dome has a couple of minor dents, but no big deal. This lantern comes with a clear cast Union Pacific “The Overland Route” logo globe. There are no cracks or breaks in the globe. There is one minor rim chip on the bottom edge of the globe. The chip is on the other side of the logo and is almost unseen when the globe is displayed logo forward in the frame. The globe is made by Corning. The pot is in minty condition; no rust or holes. The brass burner is original; the wick raiser knob is marked Handlan. There is no wick (an easy replacement, if desired). This lantern is a rarity in that the twist-off base is not the usual style seen on almost all Handlan models such as this. The twist-off pot holder is larger than the more common ones that have a rolled-out top lip. This pot holder has a flat top lip and is taller than the ordinary Handlan pots. The diameter of the pot in this lantern is two-and five-eighths inches across and it will not fit in the more common Handlan pot holder. You’ll look at hundreds of the common Handlan pot holders before you see another one of these. This entire lantern is a very good find and will be an excellent upgrade to any railroad lantern collection! The condition is excellent, the logo globe is great, and the unusual sized pot holder and pot makes this lantern a real rarity and a great display piece! This lantern is not painted; what you see is the great condition of the metal. This is really a standout piece! Buyer pays shipping. Thank you for looking.
