Manufacturer: Zenith
Model #: 9 tube
Electrical condition: Works very well on AM all across the band and plays clear with no hum or popping noises. All of the knobs operate freely and do what they are supposed to do including the motorized tuner. On the 1.8 to 5.5 megacycles band, I received voice. On the 5.6 to 18 megacycles band, it appeared that the radio was receiving something but no voice stations. I had the radio electrically restored by an expert and on the ticket he said that he replaced 11 caps, installed two electrolytic caps, supplied and installed plug and speaker cord, spray cleaned volume control and band switches, lubricated motorized tuning components, and replaced bad power cord with braided cloth covered cord like they used originally. The tuning eye is dim. This set has a Zenith 9S365 Chassis and an operadio brand speaker. The chassis looks the same as a 9 tube Zenith Walton Chassis as viewed from the front. It displays as original and only a Zenith officionado could figure out the difference, but probably wouldn't notice the difference unless told. I have quantity two Zenith 1204 Chassis. The 1204 Chassis was used in the famed 12-S-232 Zenith Walton. I would sell either or both chassis to the winner for what I paid for them. The first chassis cost me $162.01 and the second chassis cost me $164.72. How did all of this transpire? Back in the early 1990's, I traded off my 7S232 chassis for the presently installed 9S365 chassis so that I could have a 9 tube Walton. The 9S365 chassis is restored as described above. (The Walton came in a 7 tube verison, a 9 tube version, and a 12 tube version. The more tubes, the more valuable.) I then purchased the two 1204 Chassis. I figured that I could surely get one of my 12 tube chassis to work from the two chassis I now have. If you don't want my 12 tube chassis', it is fairly common that the 1204 Chassis comes up for sale on ebay. For the buyers information, the 1204 Chassis is used in the Zenith models 12S205, 12S232, 12S245, 12S265, 12S266, 12S267, and 12S268. If you have any of these sets, then you have the correct 12 tube chassis for this radio. You could install the 12 tube chassis then sell the working 9S365 Chassis on ebay. Now for my disclaimer - Note that this is an old electrical item and I would be comfortable playing this set all day long, however, by purchasing this radio, buyer accepts that seller has no responsibility for damage or injury as a result of operation or use of this old radio.
Physical Condition: This set is huge! 23" tall x 18" wide x 13" deep. The set has the original grille cloth in good condition. Dial scale is excellent. The set has the shutter or clamshell dial where one dial moves out of the way to reveal the next dial. A really interesting feature. All knobs are correct and original. Two of the four screws that hold the chassis are present but I will make sure that there are screws in all 4 holes before shipping. All screws holding in the speaker are present and tight. The finish is original. The cabinet is in above average original condition with less than typical scuffs and wear for its age. The only missing piece of veneer is a very small sliver on the right side at the back. Everyone of my non collecting radio friends tend to gravitate to this radio and tell me that they would like to have one just like it. It is an impressive set
