A fine antique 19th century French violin
auctioned at $1 with no reserve!
A fine and rarely beautiful 19th century French violin. The violin is an especially beautiful antique piece made around 1870 in France. Parts of the ancient label have been removed so the maker remains unknown. The size is a fullsize, the bodylength is 36,0 cm. The top is a one piece top made of medium to fine grained spruce, the one piece back of well selected maple. The ribs are very mildly flamed. The unique scroll adds its very own special character to this violin, appearing mighty and male from the sides sitting on a very slim and elegant pegbox. The inlaid purfling is very. The most beautiful varnish is of a gorgoues golden red-brown color with expertly made antiqueings. Inside the violin is build with four corner blocks and full linings. The violin is in very good crackfree and undamaged condition, however, there is some reglueing of the ribs to the back plate at the end button (last photo). Comes untouched with its old setup and strings, the old case and bow stamped Vuillaume Paris (both in fair condition).
