The base metal is steel, MASTERFULLY decorated with hammered gold in Damascene technic, creating 2 extremely elaborate scenes, one on each side. One is a grand-house with Pagoda style roofs, other, smaller houses around it and lavish vegetation around it, Mount Fujiyama in the background - on the other side a garden scene with a large & fancy peacock. Both scenes are incased in ‘frames’ and surrounded with grape leaves in different sizes. The details are STUNNING, the closer You look, the better they get, even under a loop. This is an original work by the Komai family - the gold-plaque signature inside reads: " KYOTO JU KOMAI SEI" (Made by Komai in Kyoto) The piece is in FLAWLESS condition with no damage of any sort, good, firm lock. The case measures 3 3/8" x 2 7/8".
