This is a highly detailed and gorgeous Antique Japanese Netsuke of a Geisha.   This is one of the most intricate pieces in my collection.  The use of color is strong and stunning.  The features are delicate, with wisps of hair straying from the carefully arranged hairdo.  Her clothing is exceedingly well done, with multiple layers, suggesting the artist knew his (or her?) way around a Geisha's wardrobe.  This has some definite age cracks (see pics) which suggest its authenticity and maturity, but they appear stable .  As the art of netsuke moved into the 1900's artists began to use polychrome, to give color to the netsuke, and you see this used extensively on this piece.  This is carved and colored in all areas, with exceptional attention to detail (see pics).  Signed by the artist in a Gold Makie reserve.

Please see pictures for additional items in my collection and e-mail me if you want me to post any other items on e-bay.

To the best of my knowledge all my elephant ivory items are pre-ban Ivory legally imported before the ban, (many dating to the 1800's or earlier) and will be sold in compliance with all laws governing the sale of ivory.  As such they will only be shipped within the United States.  Please do not ask me for international shipping quotes

As of the end of December e-bay will no longer allow the sale of any Ivory, even legal pre-ban ivory.   This will make it much harder to purchase netsuke in the future, therefore I am reluctantly placing the bulk of my collection up for auction at this time.

The Japanese items I am auctioning off are part of my private collection, some obtained right from the source in Kakunodate, a beautifully preserved samurai district in northern Japan, where many samurai families are still living in beautifully kept paper and wood ancestral homes. My wife says I have to make room if I want to get more stuff.

I am an Asian History teacher, not a dealer. Any descriptions are to the best of my knowledge, and I welcome any additions or corrections. Check my feedback, I love and enjoy my collection, and I'm sure you will too. Listed at $9.99 with no reserve!

Zero or negative bidders must contact me first.

Shipping is $5.85 for US Priority Mail with delivery confirmation. Will combine shipping. Insurance is recommended, determined by the hammer price of the auction. International buyers check with me for shipping.
