On offer is a fully cleaned, serviced & working silver & brass cased aneroid pocket barometer

The dial is white enamel with black lettering, the hand is blue steel. It is marked:

STORMY   RAIN   CHANGE   FAIR   VERY-DRY

The chapter ring is marked from 26 to 31 and registers the atmospheric pressure in inches of mercury.

The front bezel rotates and is used to record the relative change in pressure, indicating trends in the weather.

The inner barometer case is brass with a silver plated bezel. The outer case is silver and bears the Birmingham hallmarks for 1906 (lower case g). The makers initials are Gy & Co

The barometer is fully working and has been tested against a digital barometer set to inches of mercury, the results indicate that within the limitation of an instrument made over 100 years ago, it is accurate.

The overall condition of the barometer and case are very good, The outer it is in good condition there are a couple of small dents on the rear and side, also one on the rear edge but is otherwise good.  The barometer itself is in very good condition with only light marking on the rear, there are no dents or scratches. The dial is very good but there is a scatch across the lower blank section but no chips or hair line cracks. The bevelled glass crystal is original with no scratches.

The barometer is fully working and is 50mm in diameter and 20mm thick, the outer case is 53mm in diameter and 28mm thick. The barometer weighs 106g (excluding case), the outer silver case weighs 43g.

This instrument is the 19th century equivalent of GPS, Victorian men (it was nearly always men) would purchase this sort of instrument before embarking on an adventure, probably involving hill climbing, ballooning or mountain climbing. This instrument could then be used to predict the weather (rain, sun etc.).

I guarantee that this barometer is working and will gladly refund the full cost including postage, if it is found to be faulty or mis-described.

If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail me.

I am happy to offer combine postage if you purchase more than one watch.
