Original GEORGE NAKASHIMA Standing Lamp - Unique

NOTE - This lamp is only available to bidders in New England and reasonably distant eastern states (as far as Bucks County) to facilitate personal delivery for immediate approval and to ensure a seamless transaction. BASIC INFORMATION - This lamp is not signed but is an original Nakashima. My grandmother worked for him and I was raised around his pieces as my normal backdrop, including this one. An informal appraisal was done (by Grajales of NYC) three years ago, where this lamp, though simple, appraised highest due to its unique nature. Hopefully, the photos will be fairly self explanatory. This piece is simply stated but has much character and brags the more natural wood stylings of Nakashima, whereas the uprights and base are finished to perfect smoothness....hopefully, the photos will show that well. SIZE - The lamp is approximately 53 1/2" tall, the shade is 49" in circumference and 18" tall, and the base is irregular but at its largest measurements is 12" x 24." CONDITION - Doing my best towards no surprises, this lamp is very presentable. It has been lived a life...not a stored piece....but has held up well. The shade is NOT original....replaced ten years ago....and has a few tobacco stains. Dependent on how picky you might be, perhaps it needs replacing, but it remains presentable and in good condition. One of the finishing slats at the top of the shade has four white-ish smudges and one of the uprights has a hair sized white line, less than one inch long. One of the lower finishing slats to frame the shade shows a little cracking...not sure if that happened on manufacture. There are some impressions on the base sides (inherent to the piece, I feel). A few hairlines near the "butterfly" atop the base, and one removed from it, about 4in length, but all are reasonably surface (not deep, and keeping within the character of the base). There also is a circular area that appears lesser finished...seems too uniform to be a flaw, but perhaps is. No major issues, however....this lamp continues to present nicely, although a good cleaning should bring it to its best. PRICING - Periodically, I have sold Bucks County treasures on ebay and tend to get jammed by emails asking for early auction closes. If you do this, state a price, whereas if you want to haggle, then simply bid :) TERMS - This is on approval ("as described"). I will deliver it within five days of having Paypal funds clear into my account and ONLY to the Paypal payment address. No pick ups. Escrow.com also is an option should you choose it, but terms must be pre-discussed.. I want you happy and will work with you in any way I can. Please message me with any concerns or questions. If you need more photos, feel free to ask, but bear in mind it may take me two days to get them to you.

*****Are you aware that internet-assisted canned hunting is in practice in this country? That for as repugnant as canned hunting was in the first place, we have managed to take it a step further by facilitating it from the comfort of a computer chair or couch?! What happened to the concept of the internet making the world a BETTER place? I say REVOLT and contact your state representative about Bill # H.R.2711 (an internet search will prove helpful) to enact a federal ban. We should be so, so, SO much better than this, and it starts with YOU .the voice of one to swell to that of the many. Please be a hero today.*****

THE LOW DOWN - IMPORTANT INFO!
RETURNS POLICY Back to Top
Ebay is a hobby for me...alternate stress, if you will....and I like to keep things entertaining, light and rewarding for both myself and my buyers. I cherry pick and believe in everything I post, only putting up what jazzes me, and then try to represent it as articulately as I can. It matters to me that you are happy with your purchase, and to that end NO transaction is done with me until you feel that you scored out. Provided you inhale postage charges, returns are most certainly accepted...for ANY reason. I do expect you to read the text and ask whatever questions you may have, but a TRULY smooth transaction is always my goal, so if you need to followup, then please do...I am here for you :) And I would like to take this opportunity to chide, sexist though it may be, that there is no need to employ power b*tch diva attitude in order to gain satisfaction when there is a liberal return policy from a well meaning & good natured seller, which would be the case here. You still can catch more flies with honey, you know, and let me advise that people don't offer b*tches a wide berth out of respect...they do it because b*tches are gross and a social nusiance :)

CHECKOUT INFO Back to Top
I keep things upbeat and refuse to approach my ebay selling by assuming the lowest common denominator. Now, I know in ebay land and beyond, it can sometimes seem as if the average American has turned into an obnoxiously self absorbed boor, but be that as it may I try not to let that be so here in my neck of the woods...I prefer to assume you are a good sort and not merely existing to make me miserable. I HAVE adjusted my policies over time to PAYPAL ONLY - life is easier and more predictable that way. I would be REALLY happy if you emailed me in three days, just to touch base....that is what the tribes of old called civilized and respectful behavior. If you don't, you don't...but IF you don't and by day seven, which is payment deadline day over here in Morafic land, you have also failed to pay me...well then I have two thought options - you are senile and/or overstressed, OR you are a bum. I remind you once, then I pat my dogs, get on with my life, and relist. Now if you DO touch base with me promptly, you will find me very mellow. If you need more time, just let me know :) See....pain free, hassle free, 'tude free!

SHIPPING STUFF - Canada Ships At The U.S. Rate!!! Back to Top
The ship fees listed essentially represent a break even point for me...no handling fees or any of that other ridiculous junk! Combined ships incur NO additional ship charges past the first or most heavy item....few if any other sellers do that, but I l-o--v-e LOVE combined ship sales! I DO ship delivery confirm (U.S.) - it helps a lost package to be tracked (although that has yet to be required) and is just good peace of mind. As for my shipping schedule, I used to ship daily, but now my goal is to be sure you receive your item roughly within one week. Please understand that I, and many sellers, are human beings leading lives separate and apart from ebay. I am the head of a creative project and a dog rescuer - my schedule is erratic by its very nature. I ALWAYS have items scrutinized by both myself and my ebay partner (who ships for me as well) post sale/pre ship, and we have to coordinate for that to happen. Usually it goes smoothly. When we are behind schedule, we are still cranking it to get your item to you within one week (obviously, foreign takes longer). When life is nutso and you seem destined to get your item late, I am prone to make a gesture to benefit you (such as a partial or full shipping refund) as an appreciation for your patience. My take is that you shouldn't have to endure an unreasonable wait due to my lifestyle choices, but nor should I silence my muse nor leave some dog to rot simply because you bid on one of my auctions. There is a balance between those two, and I try to maintain that with both dedication and integrity.

CLOTHING CONDITION AND QUIRKS Back to Top
I sell everything from new to very well loved...I love character pieces and reasonable flaws do not personally offend me. I am VERY articulate in my listings within the condition reports I write, and of course when flaws exist I start bidding low. I, however, am NOT a picky person nor do I run with a picky crowd or live a picky life. I am an unapologetic slob by nature and neat people turn me off...life is so much more liberated when you don't have 10,001 hangups. All my regular buyers think I am an exceptionally honest ebay seller and you can bid with absolute confidence as regards me, but if you are a stickler do know we are not on the same wave length. This is about fair trading and good deals....I figure if you want pristine, go retail. I have dogs but I have duct tape. In all my sales history, I have had two complaints about perfume smells and three about smells of smoke...and no negative feedbacks, for I always respond attentively, be it due to issues or imperfect fits, etc. As regards the matter of smells, however, I have a screened exterior porch for storing/airing out listed clothes whilst keeping them away from dog fur, and we do have a triple "nose screening" process as well. And yet for as diligent as we might be, some noses are hopelessly sensitive. If that's what you have then my advice is to bid elsewhere and bid with caution, for very few sellers have total control as to where their clothes have been. Vintage gear sometimes can have a storage-y smell as well, along with a lived-in vibe, and the same basics apply. We take exceptional efforts to ship out things that present very well, but if you are an exceptionally picky person please think twice, for that is just not my trip and in the end although I make sure things end up pleasantly for you, it is a downer in my day, and that is just not why I do this.

MORAFIC S ANNUAL WINTER ADVISORY ABOUT FUR! Back to Top
Every year I hear it..."the only fur I ll wear is VINTAGE fur!" Oh geez....talk about the dim-witted well meaning! Vintage fur occurred AGO, and that means AGO when there was no protection for sensual leopards being annihilated at a grotesque rate without care or consideration, and further reflects a time when trapping was both ongoing and barbaric. That favorite fox fur once belonged to a creature who had steel teeth clamped upon his leg, no means for escape, stuck exposed in the elements until some trapper finally came along to put him out of his misery. Do we all know that foxes are monogamous?....that somewhere the little fox wife or hubby was peering into the drift anxiously awaiting the return of their mate who now lay struggling in the snow in a grip of unreleasing torture, trying to gnaw their leg off for the sheer pain of it? Perhaps, as well, there were young. Well, if there were, odds are they starved to death, or met some other sad fate resultant from not having two parents to love and guide them. So, please should you claim yourself to be driven by ethics, humanity and the fair treatment of our animal friends, don t sport such testimony to the vanity of our indifference. The ONLY place vintage fur belongs is buried in your backyard with a little tombstone atop it that simply says "I m Sorry." As should be we all.
