Here is a very pretty mid-19th century French gilt bronze and porcelain wall sconce in the Louis XVI style. The porcelain is hand painted and is marked on the back with the Sevres mark.
The sconce is of the double candle type and measures 14 3/4 inches or 37 centimeters high. It is 10 inches or 25 cm in diameter. All the metal work is gilded bronze. The center porcelain shows a romantic scene with a young man adjusting the flowers in a girl's hair. All this in a park-like setting. The borders are in "SEVRES" light blue. This border is further decorated with 4 large reserves of flowers, in turn decorated with applied gold gilding. The back of the plate is marked with the Sevres mark in blue. In the middle of the Sevres mark is an A, below which is an S...
The condition of this 19th century sconce is excellent. The porcelain is perfect. There is some darkening and oxidation to the gilded bronze work, but this is minor and to be expected.
There is no reserve. Please see my other auctions for other interesting antiques.
