EXOTIC WOOD HERMAN MILLER CREDENZA Hollywood-Regency

NO RESERVE PRICE.

65" wide x 27 1/4" tall x 26 1/4" deep.

Gorgeous 1970's vintage mid-century modern exotic wood molded plywood and flat tubular chrome frame credenza designed by Peter Protzman for Herman Miller. I've seen the wood on this form referred to as zebrawood, bubinga wood, and tropical olive wood. I wrote to Herman Miller and was informed that it is West African Ayous wood that was processed in Italy. It's absolutely beautiful-- the grain forms stunning patterns, and some of the wood between the rings has tones of orange. I've seen the matching desk, and Herman Miller also made a bookcase in this line. The desk is nearly identical to the credenza, the only major difference being the drawers-- I've seen the desk in two forms: one with three short drawers, and a second one with a short middle pencil drawer. This form could probably be used as a desk as well if the middle drawer was removed.

According to Herman Miller, this line was only produced from 1972-1977.

Note that his is beautifully finished on the back side as well, so it could be placed in the center of a room for the best visual impact. The grain on the front of the drawers was cut from one piece of wood, so the grain is aligned and near-seamless visually. Even the bottom is finished in the same veneer, so this could be placed near a staircase or on a mezzanine and still look beautiful when viewed from below.

Very sturdy/ excellent quality.

Two drawers are marked with Herman Miller labels. Dated "JAN 21 1975 (3?)."

CONDITION: Overall quite presentable as it is and in excellent vintage condition. The top has some scratches, minor imperfections, and one small indentation (see photos). The indentation could be filled and touched up to match if desired or simply concealed by the proper placement of a lamp or art object. The chrome is free of dents or pitting and is bright and shiny with no plating loss. The veneer is free of chips except for some tiny nicks along the drawer edge that are extremely difficult see. No restorations or repairs, other than to the metal drawer handles (which were touched up with a durable, high-quality enamel).

120 lbs.
