For sale today is an early and important 4 gallon salt glazed stoneware water cooler. It is profusely decorated ON BOTH SIDES with cobalt blue flowers all around, and from top to bottom!! It is attributed to William Linton who started his potting career potting with Maulden Perine in Baltimore, MD and later started his own pottery in Baltimore, Maryland. I have provided a photo of a marked William Linton piece which has the same decoration and also the same applied handles. On the shoulder the cooler is marked with a ‘4’ indicating 4 gallons. There are not many known marked pieces of William Linton, but you are pretty safe to say this cooler was potted by him...... at any angle you look at this piece there is HUGE BLUE that is hard to miss!! This piece is even more impressive in person!
The condition is as follows: it is in excellent condition except for a nick on the inner rim and on the base of the cooler which is not seen when up right. There is a mark on the rim just over the handle which is glazed over the making. Aside from manufacturing flaws there are no other chips, cracks or repairs. (see photos)…DON”T MISS OUT ON THIS ONE!! …....good luck with your bidding and thanks for looking…DON’T FORGET MY OTHER STONEWARE UP FOR SALE!!!
